Spain Needs ‘National Pact’ for Climate Disasters, Says Pm Sánchez, as Wildfires Continue

The devastating forest fires in Spain show no signs of abating. The situation will remain critical until Wednesday, the Spanish government warns.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez visited the affected areas in Ourense and Castile and León today. “I will do everything and more to ensure that the affected residents can return to normal life,” he said.

Sánchez wants to develop a national pact to respond to climate disasters, although its exact nature remains unclear.

In just one week, the ongoing forest fires have already destroyed at least 1,150 square kilometers in Spain, an area nearly half the size of the province of Limburg. These are the worst fires in the country  in almost 20 years .
